OK,
So, my basic idea is that we get pairs of practising scientists to join up. This means that they can work one on/one off at the festival From a given discipline they apply to the relevant funders to promote their discipline. Each pair bids for £5000 - 2 for their own costs and 3 for the project. 10 pairs get's 30k, 15 gets the full 45. See,
Budget and
Fundraising.
My current ideas for groups to target to get involved, and hence to apply to their own potential funding streams are;
- Chemists - groups working on C60 and nanotubes. would have thought there were several. Sadly, the main one at Sussex (Harry's old group) was shut down when they closed the Chemistry department) I'd ask Jonathan Hare (an ex student of Harry's to try and chase up some leads)
- Bio-medics. Robert d'Rozario is a bio-medic at Oxford and was one of my first successful contacts. We'd really like more so as to increase the size of the bid we can make to Wellcome. I'd ask Robert to try and find more groups that would like to add themselves to the bid
- Physicists. I'm not too sure what physicists are doing with C60 and nanotubes these days. I'd guess the most fruitful avenue would be superconductors.
- Mathematicians, Basically C-3-60 is a fractal. There is a page on mathematicians that I produced as a result of an email from the LMS. Anyone who could follow that up would be appreciated.
- Engineers. This is a structure, engineers are into structures and materials. I am particularly interested in getting them involved because I want someone to do finite-element- analysis of the structure ( and a few variants that I have to increase its structural integrity)
- Architects - gedoesics and novel building methods. Does anyone know a friendly group of archititects who'd like to get on board?
- Who have I missed out?
