The proposal is to go to Glastonbury 2010 and build an art installation inspired by the structure of C60, a form of Carbon along with Graphite and Diamond, out of 200,000 ping-pong balls. The final structure would be approximately 5 metres tall and 7 metres in diameter. While the piece is being constructed on site over 3-4 days, half a dozen scientists from different disciplines would be in attendance to interact with members of the festival audience and discuss how their work is inspired by this structure and what the members of the public feel about that research.
In short, the project is using a highly visual piece of art to stimulate dialogue between research scientists and the general public
